mount-and-blade

Mount and Blade is available on Steam for 75% off this weekend. The deal runs from the 23-25 of January and is amazing for only $7.50. This is by far the best 8 dollars you’ve ever spent on a game. You can easily consume 20+ hours before you start to realize just how much you can do with the game.

You can download the demo here and buy the game for 75% off here.

Take the riding system from Zelda 64, for example.  Combine the choices and map system of Ogre Battle and the massive army aspect of Total War and you have Mount and Blade.

When you start out, you make a series of choices that will determine your starting base stats. After that you start out in one of five different factions. This (as far as we can tell) is random and doesn’t seem to make much of a difference.

You’ll start out with the training camp (we highly recommend it) and once that’s completed, you’re on your own. Go around to castles and villages performing tasks for different Lords, Ladies and Village Elders.

If you prefer, you don’t have to join a faction.  You can simply be a mercenary for hire. Visit taverns and recruit as you go. Hunt down looters and raiders to build up your army’s experience.

This game has so many different features that we just love. The graphics aren’t the best but they run great on lower video cards. There is no blood (only if you check no blood in the configuration -> game tab) and the violence aspect is actually quite minimal. There is some vulgar language and sexual suggestions. It is rated “T for Teen” and is quite appropriate for the young adult audience.

For those looking for more information on the game you can find the unofficial manual here. You will find great resources and information on this site. We hope you enjoy the game as much as we have.
