Finally it’s been released! That’s right ladies and gentleman it’s time to bat some heads in. Tonight is the official release of the scout update that we have been waiting months for. You can find all of the scout weapons on our blog as we have kept you updated to release tonight.

The Sandman

The Bonk Energy Drink

The Force-A-Nature

Last nights poll that Valve started gave us all the option of what weapons would be released first. It takes 10 to get the Force-A-Nature (FAN); 16 for The Sandman and 22 for The Bonk Energy Drink. Get in there and get those achievements.

So it seems that I was right on Saturday when I made the post Scout Update: Scattergun. I simply had the O and the A in the middle confused. This gun sounds simply amazing. After reading the content it seems that you’ll be able to Scattergun shot into the air like a soldier with rockets or demo with stickies.

Also, not a surprise, but you reload very slow and only get two shots at a time. I hope that the damage on this sucker can at least do 100-150 damage if fired within 10-15 feet. I guess we’ll see tomorrow how all of it plays out though. Here’s the official text on the Force-A-Nature. Don’t forget to get your awesome t-shirt and to vote for which weapon will be unlockable first!

KNOCK ‘EM BACK! with the… Force-A-Nature double-barreled shotgun.

Any outdoorsman will tell you the most frustrating part of hunting is when a deer simply FALLS DOWN when shot, and doesn’t FLY BACKWARDS into the forest. Those days are over. Anything this baby hits better PACK A LUNCH, ’cause it’s going for a ride!

If you happen to be AIRBORNE when firing (for example, leaping from your car after spotting a buck), you’ll be PROPELLED into the sky, where you can hunt birds!

A common complaint with most shotguns is that they reload TOO FAST and hold TOO MANY shells.
THE FORCE-A-NATURE has solved these problems! This two-shotter loads nice and slow, so you can SAVOR every precious moment.”

Today’s Team Fortress 2: Scout Update Day 4 features two maps. Both of these maps you may already recognize. I was hoping we would get to see the primary weapon for the scout today, but that probably won’t come until Monday.

The two maps that have been released officially are CP_Egypt and CP_Fastlane. CP_Fastlane is played as a regular map on some servers but wasn’t a standard Valve map until now. CP_Egypt was a custom map for Counter-Strike: Source. Hopefully the TF2 version of this map will be a lot more fun then it’s CS:S counter part.

Here’s the official release statement for CP_Egypt:

A Dustbowl-style control point map, Egypt is visually striking, full of great combat spaces, and features some really interesting uses of vertical space. Classes with the ability to ascend rapidly (Soldiers, Demomen, and Scouts using the new scattergun unlockable ) have lots of options for traversing the arenas. In addition, the ruins provide Engineers with a large number of potential sentrygun locations.

Here’s the official information release for CP_Fastlane:

CP_Fastlane Update

Fastlane is an update to one of the first community maps we shipped. This release features a wide variety of changes, from spawn and capture timer tweaks, to geometry and art modifications, to exploit fixes.

Valve has again released more information on this day 3 of the Scout Update. Today they revealed that the next “weapon” for the scout will be a cherry flavored energy drink. Don’t think the scout moves fast enough? Think again!

‘Bonk’ Energy Drink

“Runnin’ rings around all them molasses-slow dummies out there on the battle- field is thirsty frickin’ work. But when it comes to quenchin’ that thirst, only one thermonuclear thirst detonator packs all the “Atomic Punch” you’ll ever need. Bonk! is fulla radiation, which as we all know is pretty great for givin’ people superpowers. Just one can’ll blast ya into a few-second rush of radioactive energy so powerful you’ll be dodgin’ bullets like they ain’t even there!”

The second addition to the update today is the release of the scout achievement names. While there’s no description of what each achievement takes, you can guess pretty accurately with their names. Here’s a list of the new achievements that will be coming for the scout.

Finally Valve has released the second day of updates leading to the final Scout Update next Tuesday! Today was the release of two new maps. One is an arena map and the other is a control point map.

The first new map is Arena_Watchtower. Here’s the description from Valve about how this new map will be:

“An Arena map that plays unlike any of Valve’s Arena maps, with a heavy focus on vertical space and long, open sight lines. Control of the central building is a key decision that teams must wrestle over. More Sniper friendly than most Arena maps, it’s a perfect complement to the Scout update. Batter up!”

The second map that Valve is releasing will be cp_junction. Here’s the description from Valve about how this map will be:

“A Gravel-Pit style map that the community has been heckling us to include for months. Junction is a sharp contrast to Watchtower. It’s full of tight spaces and short sight lines, which create combat opportunities dominated by ambushes and explosive weaponry.”

From the looks of it Valve has finally released the date for the Scout to be updated! On their offical site they have finally revealed the first weapon the scout will be getting. To no surprise it’s a new baseball bat called “The Sandman”.

The Sandman will hit a baseball at a target and stun them in place. Knock them even more silly the farther the ball travels. Even better it will work on ubered targets. Who among us isn’t tired of being rolled over by an uber heavy? Well knock him silly with your new toy!

The downside to all of this is that with the bat equiped you won’t be able to double jump. Somehow I beileve this weapon will be nerfed/fixed shortly after release. Either that or it’s going to be like the flare gun and never get used (for the most part).

Anyway if you check the main page located at Team you’ll see that they will be releasing a new update each day up until the 24th. Normally Valve does releases on Tuesday so we assume the last day will be the release. Make sure to come back daily to check for updates on our blog. As they release the information we’ll keep you updated.

You can check out The Sandman by following the link here or  just click on it on the main page we posted above. Also don’t forget to check out our Guide section up above for a guide on how to play Scout. If you’re weak at playing Scout get some practice in now and take some tips from our tutorial. There was an update last night to the Valve servers for TF2. It really bugged out a lot of people and changed everyone’s SteamID from STEAM:_0:(numbers) to STEAM:_1(numbers) which made people with reserved slots and bans lose them.

Fixes can be made by your administrators (we’re lucky enough to have a good one on SourceOP) and it also changed how you switch achievement items. Before you simply went into spawn opened the item window (M) and changed your gear to instantly change. Now when you do it you have to either change class and change back or walk into the ammo cabinet.

Also since this update was just released we have to assume that the scout update will be the next to fall in line. However, Valve was supposed to release the update weeks ago and still hasn’t. Here is the official statement by Valve on their blog. Keep in mind that this post was on January 24, 2009.

“When’s the next update going to be out?”

* We’ve got an update that should be out tomorrow with a bunch of bug & exploit fixes. Later this week we hope to have another update out that changes the way we store your unlockable items. You shouldn’t notice much difference, other than if you play on multiple computers we’ll now propagate your item choices. You can think of that update as the one that moves your inventory into the Steam Cloud. Once that’s out of the way, we’ll be able to ship the Scout pack.

You can read the whole article here.

Now there has been three sets of patches since this post a month ago. None of them seem to have changed unlockable items except for this update.  Maybe the scout update will be sooner then we think. I wouldn’t put my faith in it though because Valve is notorious for delaying things.

Every now and again you’ll run into something that you really like and can’t explain why. I found two cartoon videos of TF2 characters that reminded me of something I’d see on Adult Swim or MTV late night. I hope you laugh as much as I did watching them.

I love the Team Fortress 2 videos on meet the classes. I wanted to share the ones that are released with you so far. When the rest are released I’ll post them under this video blog. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

Team Fortress 2: Meet the Heavy

Team Fortress 2: Meet the Engineer

Team Fortress 2: Meet the Demoman

Team Fortress 2: Meet the Scout

Team Fortress 2: Meet the Soldier

Team Fortress 2: Meet the Sniper

Team Fortress 2: Meet the Sandvich

The spy crab is the infamous double agent. Cunning, good looking, and has great moves. Sadly the spy crab was never really on our side. As Insomnia Princess puts it “Many of you have heard of the Save the Spycrab campaign that is sweeping across TF2 servers worldwide. You may have even seen the posters with the infamous lines “Think twice before you wrench”.

These spycrab-loving fundamentalists want you to “Remember, this rare and beautiful species relies on YOUR sentries and dispensers to live! So, the next time you see that sapper, think twice about pulling out your wrench.”

I plead to you today… do not be fooled! The spycrab is not your friend, nor is he a “beautiful species”.”

For those who are completely lost as to what a spy crab is you can see from the picture at the bottom what they are. For those that want to be spy crabs simply open your disguise kit, hold down crouch and look at the sky. This will give you the spy crab look and you can join their ranks of evil doers.
